Know Our Organisation

Our Mentor

In 1981, International year for people with disabilities, most revered Shri Radha Krishna Agrawal ji, the former Vice – Chancellor, Kanpur University and Director, Public Service Commission instituted Kalyanam Karoti and served as its president. Mahadevi Verma, a venerated poetess described Kalyanam Karoti as an implicit lyrical epic of compassion. In the year 1984, dynamic curator of Kalyanam Karoti Shri Radha Krishna Agrawal ji exited this mortal world. He was a quintessence of bliss and compassion in its true sense. Kalyanam Karoti is a paradigm of his altruistic efforts and services. His propitious reminiscence continues to be inspirational.

Our founder

Vimal Kumar Sharma was the founder of Kalayanam Karoti. He believed and lived by the phrase "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam"( the world is one family). When donating his sweaters to the shivering men on the roadside and emptying his wallet for buying the milk for starving children couldn't contain the endless empathy in his heart. He decided to dedicate his entire life in transforming the life of disabled people. He led an exemplary life and his death too was a gift to the society. He lost his battle with cancer but in return lit- up the world of two sightless people by donating his eyes. Vimal Kumar Sharma also donated his body to the Anatomy Department of King George Medical University, Lucknow.

Our Inspiration

Our founder, Vimal Kumar Sharma, learnt to live the life of gratitude and social welfare under the tutelage of Shri Chandra Bhanu Gupta. Vimal was inspired by Sri Gupta’s act of benevolence and commitment to the society. While serving three terms as a chief minister of Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, he was also the main force behind the Motilal Nehru Memorial Society, which set up various educational, social welfare and cultural centers in Lucknow. These include Ravindralaya, Children Museum, Bal Vidya Mandir, Acharya Narendra Dev Hostel, Homeopathic Hospital, a number of Degree Colleges and a Public Library in Lucknow. His death created a huge void in Vimal’s life, inspiring him to contribute to the society the way his mentor had. Thus, after spending some grieving time alone in Haridwar, he came back and created Kalyanam Karoti, to serve society.
